Panaji: Goa Governor PS Sreedharan Pillai emphasized the importance of acknowledging the Goan freedom struggle in India’s broader historical narrative during the release of a poster for a documentary on Goa Liberation at the 55th International Film Festival of India (IFFI).
Speaking at the event, Pillai described the documentary as "a short film that respects the history of the Goan freedom struggle." He further noted that the film would be available in Konkani, Portuguese, and English, broadening its accessibility to diverse audiences.
"It should be a part of the Indian freedom struggle. Due consideration was not given to the Goan freedom struggle... It should come into the mainstream history of India," he urged, stressing that Goa's contribution to the country’s independence deserves greater recognition.
Pillai expressed his support for the project, wishing success to those behind the effort. "I wish all the best for this effort," he concluded, underscoring the need for historical narratives to reflect the full scope of India’s freedom movement.
