Margao, Goa: Goa Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant on Wednesday addressed the International Day of the Seafarer 2025 celebrations held at Ravindra Bhavan, Margao, reaffirming his government’s commitment to the welfare, safety, and dignity of the state’s vibrant seafaring community.
Organized by the Goan Seamen Association of India, this year’s observance centered around the theme “My Harassment-Free Ship,” underscoring the global maritime sector’s push toward safer, more inclusive, and respectful working environments aboard ships.
“Dignity, respect, and safety must anchor every voyage,” CM Sawant said, emphasizing that mental well-being and workplace ethics are as critical as technical training in maritime careers.
Sawant proudly noted that Goa remains the only state in India to offer a dedicated Seafarers’ Pension Scheme, a unique welfare measure that provides financial security to retired maritime professionals. He also highlighted state efforts to enhance skill development, international placement opportunities, and targeted welfare programs tailored to seafarers and their families.
“Our seafarers are global ambassadors of Goan resilience and skill. We remain committed to supporting them through progressive policies and expanding global opportunities,” he added.
