Delhi: Union Minister Giriraj Singh on Wednesday strongly criticised Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over his recent allegations of electoral malpractice, asserting that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) would continue in power on the strength of its governance record.
Responding to Gandhi’s comments that the BJP planned to remain in power through “vote chori,” Singh said, “Rahul Gandhi lies… Yes, we will stay in power for 50 years, but on the strength of our work. You keep lying, the public will sideline you just like that.”
The minister also took exception to the presence of opposition leaders in Bihar who, he alleged, had previously made disparaging remarks about people from the state. “For the way they (Rahul Gandhi) are gathering people who abuse the people of Bihar in Bihar, they should apologise. Otherwise, they will have to pay the price for it in the coming elections,” Singh warned.
The exchange is part of an escalating war of words between the BJP and the Congress-led opposition INDIA alliance amid the ongoing ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra’ in Bihar. While the opposition has focused on allegations of electoral irregularities, the BJP has defended its record and accused rivals of misleading the public.
