New Delhi: Union Minister Giriraj Singh lashed out at Congress leader and Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition (LoP) Rahul Gandhi over his attempted visit to Sambhal, which has been reeling under communal violence. Singh accused Gandhi of ignoring government warnings and engaging in political theatrics at the cost of law and order.

"He went there (Sambhal) to create drama. Is it the job of the Leader of Opposition to break the law? Why did the LoP go there despite the government's clear appeal?" Singh questioned. "The law applies equally to everyone; it cannot be different for the LoP," he added, asserting that Gandhi’s actions undermined the government’s efforts to maintain peace in the region.

Rahul Gandhi was stopped at the Ghazipur border earlier today as he attempted to visit the affected area to meet the victims of the violence. Authorities justified the move, citing the ongoing investigation and the need to prevent any disruptions to the fragile law and order situation.

Giriraj Singh’s remarks come amidst a broader political tussle between the BJP and the opposition INDI alliance, with Sambhal becoming a flashpoint for debate. While Congress has accused the government of suppressing dissent and ignoring the plight of victims, the BJP has countered by accusing opposition leaders of politicizing sensitive issues for electoral gains.

The Sambhal violence and the ensuing political fallout have further escalated tensions, with both sides sticking to their narratives. Meanwhile, local authorities continue their investigation into the incidents, calling for calm and cooperation from all stakeholders.
