Mumbai: Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani delivered a deeply personal and reflective address at the 5th Annual Conference of the Society for Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery – Asia Pacific (SMISS-AP), sharing insights into his entrepreneurial journey and the values that shaped his path.

Recalling his beginnings, Adani said, “I made my first bold decision at the age of 16. I bought a second-class train ticket and left for Mumbai with no degree, no job, and no backup, except for a burning desire to define my own path.” He described how his early experience polishing diamonds in Mumbai taught him invaluable lessons in “patience, precision, and perseverance.”

Touching upon the nature of entrepreneurship, Adani emphasised that it rarely starts with a large-scale vision. “Entrepreneurship never begins with a grand vision. It begins with a spark of conviction and the courage to act, even when the future is uncertain,” he said, encouraging young minds to pursue their dreams despite obstacles.

Quoting in Hindi, he added, “Sapne wo nahi jo neend me aate hain, sapne wo hain jo neend uda dete hain” — translating to “Dreams are not what we see in sleep, dreams are what keep us awake.”
