Assam: Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi on Sunday visited the Kahilipara residence of late singer Zubeen Garg to pay tribute, joining thousands across the state mourning the sudden demise of one of Assam’s most beloved cultural icons.

Speaking to reporters, Gogoi said the loss had left the state shaken. “It feels as if an earthquake has struck Assam. We never imagined that our great musician Zubeen Garg would leave us like this. With him not returning from Singapore, it is still hard to believe,” he said, referring to the singer’s treatment abroad before his passing.

Gogoi noted the profound impact Garg had on the everyday lives of Assamese people, pointing to the spontaneous public outpouring of grief. “The way the people of Assam have closed their shops, paused their daily routines, and paid tribute by placing his photo on the streets shows how deeply he touched our lives,” he remarked.

Zubeen Garg, a versatile singer, composer, and actor, was known for his contributions to Assamese music as well as Hindi and Bengali cinema. His sudden demise has sparked statewide mourning, with cultural organizations, political leaders, and ordinary citizens remembering his legacy.
