Nagpur: Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari on Saturday announced a major infrastructure push aimed at easing traffic congestion in Pune, with projects worth nearly ₹50,000 crore in the pipeline. The initiatives include elevated roads, new highways and other measures designed to improve urban mobility and regional connectivity.
Speaking in Nagpur, Gadkari said Pune has been identified as a priority city due to its rapid urbanisation, increasing vehicle population and persistent traffic bottlenecks. To address these challenges, the Centre, in coordination with the Maharashtra government, has planned multiple large-scale road infrastructure projects.
Among the key proposals is the construction of elevated roads within Pune city to reduce congestion on arterial routes and improve travel time. Gadkari said these elevated corridors would help separate through-traffic from local traffic, offering relief to commuters and improving overall traffic flow.
