Ranchi, Jharkhand: The four-day Chhath Mahaparv, one of the most revered festivals in Bihar, Jharkhand, and eastern Uttar Pradesh, commenced today with the observance of the traditional ‘Nahay-Khay’ rituals. The festival, dedicated to the worship of the Sun God and Chhath Mai, symbolizes purity, faith, and gratitude.

On the first day, devotees take a holy dip in rivers or ponds, meditate, and pledge to observe a strict fast in the coming days. They prepare offerings of rice, lentils, and pumpkin curry, which are first offered to God before being consumed as prasad. The rituals are performed with utmost devotion, maintaining cleanliness and spiritual discipline.

Renu Singh, a resident of Ranchi who has been observing the Chhath fast for the past 30 years, said, “I have complete faith in Chhath Mai and believe that all my wishes will be fulfilled. My entire family participates in the rituals with great devotion.”
