Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Thursday announced a series of major investment and technology initiatives, positioning the state as a frontrunner in India’s push toward global-scale innovation and artificial intelligence. Speaking in Mumbai, Fadnavis said the government had approved several key proposals, including what is set to become the world’s largest Global Capability Centre (GCC) in Asia.
“Today, key decisions were taken, including a $1 billion investment for the world’s largest GCC in Asia, spanning 2 million sq ft, creating 15,000 direct and 30,000 indirect jobs,” the Chief Minister said, highlighting the project’s potential to bolster Maharashtra’s status as a premier investment destination.
Fadnavis also revealed that FedEx plans to establish a major GCC near the Mumbai-Pune corridor, citing the strategic advantage of the upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport. The development is expected to significantly boost logistics, trade, and regional economic growth.
On the technology front, Fadnavis shared insights from his interaction with Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, who demonstrated the company’s AI-driven crime-solving platform, ‘MARVEL’. He said the state government is exploring collaborations to integrate the platform beyond policing. “We discussed expanding it to health, education, agriculture, and service delivery,” Fadnavis noted.
With Microsoft announcing a $17 billion investment in India, the Chief Minister confirmed that Maharashtra will be a key beneficiary. “Maharashtra aims to become India’s AI hub,” he said, adding that the state is preparing policy and infrastructure frameworks to attract global technology giants.
