Subhash Goel, Chairman of the Expert Committee on Aviation and Tourism, weighed in on the growing calls to cut trade and tourism ties with Turkey and Azerbaijan amid the recent India-Pakistan tensions. He recalled India’s generous support to Turkey during the earthquake crisis but expressed disappointment over Turkey’s current stance.
“When Turkey was facing a crisis due to the earthquake, Prime Minister Modi launched a relief initiative called ‘Operation Dost’ and extended full support to them,” Goel said, emphasizing India’s goodwill. However, he condemned Turkey for siding with Pakistan, which India considers a terrorist-supporting country, during the recent conflict.
Goel believes that boycotting trade and tourism with Turkey and Azerbaijan would deliver a significant blow to their economies. “If we boycott trade and tourism with Turkey and Azerbaijan, it will result in a big loss for them,” he stated, underscoring the potential economic consequences of their political alignments.
