Ranchi: In response to complaints from the Indian National Congress (INC) and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) regarding a misleading and malicious video posted by BJP Jharkhand on its social media platforms, the Election Commission (EC) has intervened. The EC has directed the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Jharkhand to immediately order BJP Jharkhand to take down the post and issue a notice to explain the alleged violation of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC).
The controversial video, which was claimed to be misleading by the opposition parties, sparked a heated exchange ahead of the state elections. In addition to the removal order, the EC has instructed the CEO to work in coordination with the designated authorities in the state under Section 79(3)(b) of the Information Technology Act to ensure the objectionable content is swiftly removed from all social media platforms.
The Election Commission’s prompt action emphasizes its commitment to maintaining a fair and transparent election process by preventing the spread of misinformation and any content that may influence voters unfairly. The CEO is expected to report the steps taken to address the issue as per the EC's directive.
