At the inaugural India-GCC Joint Ministerial Meeting for Strategic Dialogue in Riyadh, External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar expressed deep concern over the escalating violence in Gaza, reiterating India's firm and consistent position on the crisis.
"The current situation in Gaza is now understandably our foremost concern," said Jaishankar. He condemned acts of terrorism and hostage-taking but emphasized India's distress over the loss of innocent civilian lives. "Any response must take into account the principles of humanitarian law," he added.
Jaishankar further highlighted India's call for an immediate ceasefire to halt the bloodshed and emphasized the nation's longstanding commitment to a two-state solution for resolving the Palestinian issue. "We have consistently stood for a resolution of the Palestinian issue through a two-state solution," he affirmed.
India, he noted, has contributed to the development of Palestinian institutions and capacities and has increased support for UNRWA in light of the ongoing humanitarian crisis. Jaishankar’s remarks underline India’s balanced approach to the complex situation in Gaza, advocating for peace and humanitarian action.
