Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday cautioned that the emerging twin challenges of drug abuse and excessive smartphone dependency are among the most serious threats confronting India’s youth. Addressing a public gathering, the Chief Minister said the rapid spread of these habits was weakening young minds and undermining their potential to contribute meaningfully to society.
Adityanath warned that substance abuse is destroying the lives of many young people, pulling them away from education, discipline and personal growth. He stressed that families, communities and institutions must work together to identify early signs of addiction and intervene before it leads to long-term damage.
Equally concerning, he said, is the growing addiction to smartphones, with many youngsters spending hours glued to screens at the cost of real-world engagement, physical fitness and emotional stability. “Drug abuse and smartphone addiction are the biggest threats facing today’s youth,” the Chief Minister said, urging students to build healthy habits and exercise self-control.
