Dehradun: Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Wednesday described drug abuse as a “silent war” threatening the country’s future generations, urging society to unite against the growing menace. Addressing a public awareness event, Dhami said that children, students and young people are the primary victims of this hidden yet dangerous battle.
“Today, drug abuse is like a silent war, and if there is anyone who is the biggest target of this war, it is our future generation, our youth, our students, our children,” he said. The Chief Minister emphasised that the impact of substance abuse extends far beyond individual families, posing a challenge to the nation’s developmental goals.
Dhami stressed that parents, teachers, and society at large hold deep expectations from the younger generation. He said the youth must be protected and guided so that they can contribute to the vision of “Amrit Kaal” and advance Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s goal of building a developed India.
He called for stronger vigilance, community participation, and awareness initiatives to curb drug consumption and trafficking, stating that combating the issue is a shared responsibility. Dhami reaffirmed the government’s commitment to intensifying anti-drug campaigns across Uttarakhand.
“Our youth will become the carriers of the Amrit Kaal,” he said, urging citizens to work collectively to safeguard children from the influence of narcotics and ensure they can help shape a progressive, resilient India.
