Chennai: DMK MLA Ezhilan Naganathan on Wednesday backed Chief Minister M.K. Stalin’s statement in the Tamil Nadu Assembly on the Karur stampede, emphasizing that the tragedy should not be politicised and that all parties share responsibility for crowd management.
“The Chief Minister is very clear that there should be no politics on the Karur stampede. Every political party is responsible for handling the crowd with the support of the police,” Ezhilan said. He added that the delay in the arrival of a party leader at the rally venue reflected a lack of accountability. “The delay in the arrival of the party leader at the rally spot indicates that the party leader has not taken responsibility for the incident,” he remarked.
Calling the stampede a “man-made disaster,” the MLA commended the swift response of the police in controlling the situation and preventing further casualties. Ezhilan further accused the BJP and AIADMK of attempting to use the tragedy for political gain. “BJP and AIADMK are trying to attract a party into their alliance fold and are doing politics on this issue,” he alleged.
