Bengaluru: Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Thursday underscored the importance of party unity and commitment, describing Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge as a “very senior leader” whose guidance must be respected.

Addressing reporters, Shivakumar said it was the duty of all members—whether office bearers or grassroots workers—to uphold the party’s values and connect with people. “When you take on responsibility, whether as an office bearer or as a worker, it is your duty not just to hold a designation, but to keep the party alive and to communicate its ideology to the people,” he said.

On the political debate surrounding Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s reported assurance to rename Bengaluru’s Shivaji Nagar railway station after St Mary, Shivakumar said the issue would be taken up for discussion before a decision is made. “There is nothing wrong... We will discuss it and take a call on that,” he remarked.
