Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to implementing the ambitious Tunnel Road project in Bengaluru, emphasizing the integration of the metro and improved transport connectivity at a critical city entry point.
Speaking to the media, Shivakumar said, “That is why I was discussing with the concerned departments, the tunnel and the metro will come together, because it is a very important junction.” The planned infrastructure overhaul is aimed at decongesting traffic and transforming the key area into a modern transport hub.
The Deputy CM clarified that the government will be acquiring private land necessary for the project and assured affected landowners of appropriate compensation. “We have made it clear, we are taking over the private properties. We will convey that we will be giving compensation anyway—either in the form of TDR (Transferable Development Rights), FAR (Floor Area Ratio), or according to any norms,” he said.
Describing the area as a vital gateway to the city, Shivakumar noted that the upliftment of the zone is a priority for the state. “It is the entry point of Bengaluru, so we want to uplift the entire area. There is a transport hub there as well, all will be integrated. I am trying to sort it out,” he added.
