Bengaluru: Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has strongly refuted the BJP’s demands for a CBI probe and the resignation of Karnataka Minister Priyank Kharge in connection with the alleged suicide of a contractor in Bidar. His remarks come after Karnataka BJP President BY Vijayendra called for Kharge’s resignation and a CBI investigation into the matter.
Accusing the BJP of politicizing the incident, Shivakumar defended Kharge, stating that he had no involvement in the case. “They (BJP) want to politicize the issue... Since Priyank Kharge is one of the important leaders who has brought out many scandals, they want to destroy him,” Shivakumar said.
He further claimed that BJP’s actions stem from envy over Kharge’s growing influence. “They are jealous of his growth. His name is nowhere, and he is not connected (to the case),” Shivakumar asserted, emphasizing that the minister had no links to the controversy.
Regarding the ongoing investigation, the Deputy Chief Minister assured that due process would be followed. “The enquiry will go on,” he said, urging patience and fair treatment in the case.
The Bidar contractor's alleged suicide has stirred a political storm in Karnataka, with the BJP accusing the Congress-led state government of corruption and neglect. Vijayendra’s call for a CBI probe has intensified the political blame game, drawing sharp responses from Congress leaders.
