Bengaluru: Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Wednesday paid homage to former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on his birth anniversary, recalling his role in shaping modern India’s technological landscape. Shivakumar highlighted Gandhi’s vision in bringing telecommunication and information technology to the country, noting how his initiatives transformed connectivity at a time when obtaining a telephone connection could take years.
He described Gandhi as a leader who believed in the power of youth and made lasting contributions to India’s development. Remembering his assassination, Shivakumar referred to it as a “great sacrifice for the country” and urged Congress workers to draw inspiration from Gandhi’s legacy and commitment to nation-building.
Turning to state politics, Shivakumar addressed the upcoming local body elections in Karnataka. He said that the Congress party has prepared a plan to strengthen its campaign and will connect its strategy to the larger issue of electoral integrity, including concerns raised about alleged irregularities in past elections. Though he did not provide details, his comments suggested that the party will frame its local campaign around accountability and fairness in the democratic process.
