Bengaluru: Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has raised serious concerns over the state’s financial liabilities inherited from the previous BJP-led administration. Speaking to reporters, he revealed that his department alone is grappling with pending bills worth over ₹1 lakh crore.
“Some contractors are requesting our legislators in their constituencies to clear whatever bills have been pending,” Shivakumar said. “But the reality is, due to the massive backlog left by the previous BJP government, we are not able to release even 10 to 15% of the bills.”
He suggested that the financial stress is not just impacting development work but also putting pressure on the government’s ability to deliver on new infrastructure commitments.
