Kolkata: Senior BJP leader Dilip Ghosh on Thursday courted controversy with remarks made during a public interaction in Kolkata, where he referred to cross-border movement along the India–Bangladesh frontier and made statements that critics have described as inflammatory and irresponsible.

Ghosh alleged that incidents occurring across the country under the SIR initiative had not affected others elsewhere, but claimed the situation in West Bengal remained volatile. He went on to suggest that the Border Security Force (BSF) should take stricter measures at checkposts along the Bangladesh border. In a contentious comment, Ghosh said that those crossing over to Bangladesh should not be permitted to re-enter India — a remark that has drawn widespread condemnation from opposition parties and rights groups.
