Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has strongly criticized Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for his recent remarks in Boston, USA, where he raised concerns about India's democratic institutions, including the Election Commission. Fadnavis accused Gandhi of spreading falsehoods about India’s constitutional framework and undermining the credibility of its institutions.
“It is very sad that Rahul Gandhi goes abroad and spreads lies about the institutions created by the constitution of this country and tries to defame it,” Fadnavis remarked. He further questioned Gandhi’s intentions, suggesting that the Congress leader’s actions stemmed from his repeated election losses and frustration. “I feel that he is doing such acts because of the consequences that have happened to him after losing elections repeatedly,” Fadnavis said.
Fadnavis went on to express disappointment in Gandhi’s behavior, stating that it had “raised a question mark on his character.” He advised Gandhi to shift focus from defaming others to winning back the trust of the people. “Instead of doing such things, if he goes among the people and gets the trust of the people back, then he will be able to win the elections. He cannot win elections by defaming anyone...”
The comments reflect the ongoing political tension between the ruling BJP and the Congress, with Gandhi’s international remarks continuing to fuel debates about the state of Indian democracy
