Mumbai: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Saturday said that India’s democratic strength and stability stem from its deep-rooted cultural values of tolerance and inclusivity. Speaking at a public event, Fadnavis noted that while democracy has struggled to survive in several neighbouring countries, it continues to flourish in India due to the nation’s unique civilisational ethos.

“Democracy may not have survived in neighbouring nations, but it has thrived in India because our original culture is based on the values of democracy and tolerance,” Fadnavis said. He emphasized that India’s commitment to freedom of expression, equality, and dialogue has ensured the continuity of democratic traditions for decades.

The Chief Minister added that India’s governance model, which accommodates diverse opinions and cultural pluralism, reflects the spirit of its Constitution and ancient philosophy. “Our democracy is not just a political system—it is a way of life shaped by our traditions and respect for differing views,” he remarked.
