New Delhi | The national capital continued to choke under a blanket of toxic smog on Wednesday, as the Air Quality Index (AQI) remained in the “severe” category for the second consecutive day. According to data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the AQI at 9 am stood at 414, indicating hazardous levels of air pollution.
The persistent deterioration in air quality has been attributed to stagnant weather conditions, vehicular emissions, and crop residue burning in nearby states. Visibility remained low across several parts of the city in the morning hours, with residents reporting breathing discomfort and irritation in the eyes and throat.
Meteorological data showed that the minimum temperature in Delhi dropped to 10.4 degrees Celsius, signaling the onset of colder conditions that often worsen pollution by trapping pollutants close to the ground.
