New Delhi: In a major step to curb air pollution, Delhi's Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa has announced that vehicles older than 15 years will no longer be allowed to refuel at petrol pumps starting March 31, 2025.

The decision aims to reduce vehicular emissions, a key contributor to Delhi’s worsening air quality. Older vehicles release significantly higher levels of pollutants, prompting stricter measures to control air pollution in the capital.

Speaking on the move, a cab driver supported the decision, saying, "The government is right. The validity of vehicles expires after 15 years, so it is not right to drive those vehicles on the roads. Such vehicles should be put in the yard."

Authorities have been taking several steps to tackle Delhi’s pollution crisis, including restrictions on diesel vehicles, promotion of electric mobility, and implementation of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) during peak pollution months.
