The Delhi Police have recovered 625 mobile phones—reported stolen, snatched or lost—and returned them to their rightful owners in east Delhi’s Shahdara district, officials said on Wednesday. The total value of the recovered devices is estimated at around ₹1 crore, marking one of the district’s largest coordinated recovery drives.
The operation was carried out by 13 police teams drawn from various stations across Shahdara. The phones were traced from multiple states, including Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Punjab, Madhya Pradesh and Uttarakhand, reflecting the wide movement of devices after theft or loss.
Police officials said that extensive technical analysis was key to the successful operation. Teams used IMEI tracking, call detail examinations and data from the CEIR (Central Equipment Identity Register) portal, which alone helped trace 225 devices through the central database. The integrated tracking effort enabled swift identification and location of the phones.
Of the 625 recovered devices, 321 were reported as lost, 202 as stolen, 61 as snatched, 39 were linked to house thefts and two were associated with robberies, officials said. Police stations in GTB Enclave and Seemapuri recorded the highest recoveries with 221 and 165 phones respectively.
