New Delhi, Aug 11 — Delhi minister Kapil Mishra on Sunday welcomed the Supreme Court’s order directing that all stray dogs in the Delhi-NCR region be relocated to shelters within eight weeks.

“We are committed to the welfare of homeless animals. Today’s Supreme Court decision will help remove the obstacles in our path. For many years, the Delhi government has not paid attention to this issue. Today, it has become a serious problem,” Mishra said.

He added that the government would “implement the Supreme Court’s decision in a time-bound manner, keeping the spirit of kindness, compassion, and humanity in mind.”

The Supreme Court’s order comes amid growing concerns over public safety, animal welfare, and rising stray dog populations in urban areas. Animal rights advocates have stressed that relocation efforts should prioritise adequate shelter infrastructure, veterinary care, and proper management to ensure humane treatment.
