New Delhi: Welcoming the Supreme Court’s decision to allow the use of green firecrackers in Delhi-NCR, Delhi Minister Ashish Sood said the move restores fairness to festive celebrations and ends the practice of “vote bank politics” that, he alleged, had restricted the majority community in the past.

Speaking to reporters, Sood said, “Previous governments, due to minority politics and vote bank politics, used to block such opportunities where the majority community could celebrate their festivals openly. We presented our case in court and made a request to the court. The court accepted it.”

The Supreme Court’s ruling allows limited use of eco-friendly firecrackers that meet specified environmental standards, balancing cultural practices with pollution concerns. The decision comes ahead of the Diwali season, when firecracker restrictions have often been a subject of public debate in the capital region.
