Delhi Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj has alleged that the Delhi Development Authority (DDA), under the oversight of the Lieutenant Governor's office, cut down approximately 1,100 trees in Delhi's Ridge area without obtaining the necessary permissions. Bharadwaj pointed out that this information was revealed in an affidavit submitted by the DDA's chairman, which Chief Justice of India D.Y. Chandrachud is set to review.
"According to the affidavit we've received from the DDA’s chairman, it has been admitted that trees were cut without seeking any permission. The truth is coming out now," Bharadwaj stated.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has accused Delhi LG VK Saxena of allegedly approving the unauthorized felling of the trees, bringing this environmental issue to the forefront of their ongoing political tussle with the central government-appointed LG.
