Delhi: The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has announced an increase in weekday trips in response to the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) Stage III measures aimed at curbing pollution in the National Capital Region. Starting tomorrow at 8:00 AM, DMRC will add 20 extra trips to its schedule, supplementing the 40 additional trips already introduced under GRAP-II guidelines, thus raising the total to 60 additional trips daily.
This enhanced schedule is part of Delhi’s broader efforts to address rising pollution levels, particularly during the colder months when air quality often worsens. GRAP-III is implemented when air quality reaches severe levels, necessitating extra restrictions and mitigative measures, including an increase in public transportation options to encourage people to leave private vehicles at home.
The DMRC’s proactive adjustments, aimed at accommodating increased ridership, intend to facilitate smoother commuting and help reduce vehicle emissions on the road. The additional trips will run across key routes during peak hours, providing commuters with more frequent services and easing crowding within metro coaches.
The Delhi Metro, which serves millions of passengers daily, remains one of the most efficient modes of transit in the city. With these extra services, DMRC reinforces its role in the city’s public health strategy by supporting sustainable urban mobility and providing an alternative to road-based transport amid critical air quality concerns. The additional trips will continue until GRAP-III measures are lifted, ensuring that Delhiites have consistent and reliable metro services during this period.
