Delhi LG's Office Denies Plans to Demolish Religious Structures, Accuses CM Atishi of 'Cheap Politics'

New Delhi: A fresh political confrontation has emerged between Delhi Chief Minister Atishi and Lieutenant Governor (LG) Vinai Kumar Saxena over the alleged demolition of religious structures in the capital.

In a letter addressed to the LG, Chief Minister Atishi expressed apprehension regarding decisions made by the Religious Committee, purportedly under the LG's direction, to demolish multiple religious structures across Delhi. She highlighted that the list includes several temples and Buddhist places of worship revered by the Dalit community. Atishi emphasized that such actions could hurt the religious sentiments of these communities and urged the LG to reconsider the decision. 

Responding to these allegations, the LG's Secretariat issued a statement refuting any plans to demolish places of worship. The statement read: "Neither any Temples, Mosques, Churches or any other place of worship being broken/demolished, nor has any file to this effect come. CM is playing cheap politics to divert attention from her and her predecessor CM's failures." The LG's office further clarified that strict instructions have been given to the police to maintain vigilance against potential vandalism for political gains, citing the peaceful Christmas celebrations as evidence of effective implementation.
