Delhi L-G VK Saxena Inaugurates Deepotsav at Revitalized Vasudev Ghat

By A Staff Reporter — Celebrating the spirit of Diwali, Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena inaugurated the 2024 Deepotsav at Vasudev Ghat, marking a major cultural transformation in the area. Speaking at the event, Saxena shared the backstory of the venue’s revival, detailing how it was once largely abandoned due to poor upkeep but is now drawing thousands of visitors every day. Saxena emphasized that this transformation is part of a larger initiative to create spaces in Delhi that reflect the city’s rich cultural heritage while attracting people from across the country.

"This place used to be very dirty, and nobody used to come here," Saxena noted. "Today, we are celebrating 'Deepotsav' at Vasudev Ghat, where lakhs of earthen lamps are beautifully illuminating the area. Thousands now come here both in the mornings and evenings to enjoy the vibrant atmosphere," he added.

The Deepotsav celebration, featuring countless lamps lit along the ghat, serves as both a symbolic and practical example of Delhi’s revitalization efforts under the city’s administration. This year marks the first official celebration of Deepotsav at Vasudev Ghat, a tradition that Saxena envisions will grow annually. “This year we have started the celebration of 'Deepotsav' here, and it will become bigger each year,” he promised.

The festival aligns with Delhi’s broader beautification agenda, which aims to restore and maintain public spaces to foster community engagement and enhance the city’s aesthetic appeal. Vasudev Ghat, located along the Yamuna riverfront, has benefited from significant cleaning and landscaping efforts, transforming it from an underused area into a bustling public venue.
