New Delhi — In a significant move aimed at improving the living standards of workers, the Delhi government has announced a major hike in minimum wages. Addressing a press conference, Delhi minister Kapil Mishra said the decision—termed “historic”—will positively impact nearly 40 lakh skilled and unskilled workers across both government and private sectors.

“The Delhi Chief Minister has taken a historic decision that will directly benefit around 40 lakh skilled and unskilled workers,” Mishra stated. “Wages have been increased as part of the government’s ongoing efforts to ensure dignity, justice, and financial security for all workers.”

Although the minister did not disclose the exact revised wage structure during the initial announcement, he noted that the increase aligns with inflation adjustments and cost-of-living indices to ensure workers can meet basic needs amid rising prices.

The wage hike is expected to cover a broad category of workers, including daily-wage laborers, construction workers, cleaners, drivers, clerks, and technical staff. Mishra highlighted that the decision would have a positive ripple effect on the economy by boosting consumption and local demand.
