New Delhi: Delhi Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa on Saturday said the city is witnessing some of the strictest enforcement actions in years as the government intensifies its fight against pollution amid deteriorating air quality. Addressing a press conference, Sirsa accused the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) of having burdened the national capital with mismanagement over the past decade, and asserted that the current administration under Rekha Gupta is steadily addressing long-standing issues.
Detailing the scale of action taken in recent weeks, Sirsa said authorities have so far conducted 1,750 inspections related to air quality norms and issued 556 notices to violators. Penalties amounting to ₹7 crore have been imposed, and 48 construction sites have been shut down for failing to comply with environmental regulations.
He added that in just the last two days, 230 road-related inspections were carried out, resulting in fines totalling ₹1 crore. “Strict action is being taken against any government or private entity violating rules,” he said, emphasising a zero-tolerance stance on pollution-related negligence.
