New Delhi: In a significant step toward tackling Delhi’s persistent air pollution, Delhi Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa on Thursday announced that the city government had conducted its first successful trial of cloud seeding, paving the way for artificial rain later this month.
“Today was a historic day for Delhi as the Delhi government, under the leadership of CM Rekha Gupta, achieved a historic milestone. The first successful trial of cloud seeding was done today,” Sirsa said during a press briefing.
He added that the meteorological department had forecast cloud presence over Delhi on October 28, 29, and 30, providing an optimal window for the artificial rainfall experiment. “Delhi government is absolutely ready with physical trials and permissions to induce artificial rain on 29 October,” he stated.
The initiative aims to reduce air pollution levels by using cloud seeding technology to create rainfall that helps settle airborne pollutants. Officials said this effort marks the beginning of a larger strategy to explore scientific and sustainable solutions to Delhi’s recurring post-Diwali smog problem.
