Delhi: Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said on Tuesday that the situation caused by Yamuna water entering residential areas in Yamuna Bazar remained under control. She noted that while the river’s water level had reached close to 206 metres in the morning, it had not crossed the mark.
Gupta stated that water levels were expected to begin receding within a day or two and assured that there was no flood situation in the national capital. She added that the administration had already deployed relief measures, including the distribution of food, drinking water, and provision of medical facilities to residents in the affected area.
The Yamuna, which flows through Delhi, often witnesses rising levels during the monsoon season, occasionally affecting low-lying areas of the city. Authorities typically monitor the river closely during this period to prevent breaches and manage evacuation if necessary.
This year’s rise has caused concerns in localities near the riverbanks, though officials have emphasised that current conditions remain stable. Continuous monitoring of the water level is underway, and contingency plans have been kept ready in case the situation changes.
