In a renewed effort to enhance Delhi's green cover and combat environmental degradation, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta launched the second phase of the tree plantation initiative, ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam 2.0’, on Sunday.
Speaking at the event, CM Gupta expressed her satisfaction over the enthusiastic participation from all Delhi government departments and educational institutions. “I am pleased that every Delhi department and school is joining the second series of ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’. We are requesting every person and social organisation to plant at least one tree in the name of our Mother Nature and Earth, making Delhi greener,” she said.
Under this initiative, the Delhi government has set an ambitious target of planting 70 lakh trees during this plantation season. The drive aims to significantly improve the capital’s environment, which frequently grapples with high pollution levels and low air quality, especially during the winter months.
The campaign calls for widespread community participation, urging citizens to contribute directly to environmental preservation by planting trees in honour of Mother Earth. Officials said that tracking and monitoring systems would be used to ensure effective plantation and survival of saplings.
