Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Wednesday celebrated the inclusion of Diwali on UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage List, calling it a moment of “enormous pride” for the nation. Speaking from the capital, she expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his efforts in achieving this international recognition for India’s most celebrated festival.

“This recognition is a matter of enormous pride for us, as Diwali has been inscribed on UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage List. I thank the Prime Minister for his efforts in ensuring that Diwali receives this honour,” Gupta said. She highlighted that the festival, celebrated with lights, rituals, and cultural performances across India, embodies the country’s rich heritage and values.

In a symbolic gesture, the Delhi government will illuminate its offices as part of the celebrations. “Lighting will be done at the Delhi government offices today. We will also light diyas,” the Chief Minister added, encouraging citizens to participate in the festivities while reflecting on Diwali’s cultural significance.
