Delhi CM Rekha Gupta Flags Off 24 Electric Buses at Sardar Patel Vidyalaya

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Tuesday flagged off 24 electric buses at Sardar Patel Vidyalaya, marking a significant step in the city’s shift toward clean mobility. The initiative makes the institution the first private school in the capital to completely transition its fleet to electric vehicles under a tie-up with the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC).

According to officials, the newly inducted fleet will ferry around 1,200 students daily, reducing the school’s reliance on conventional diesel buses. Authorities estimate that the move could cut carbon emissions from school transportation by nearly 60 per cent, aligning with Delhi’s broader targets for sustainable urban mobility.

The buses are equipped with modern safety features, including GPS tracking, CCTV cameras, and panic buttons, aimed at ensuring secure travel for students. Charging stations have also been set up on the school premises in coordination with DTC.

Speaking at the launch, the Chief Minister said the initiative reflects how private institutions can actively contribute to reducing the city’s pollution burden. She urged more schools to follow suit and partner with DTC in adopting electric mobility solutions.
