New Delhi: Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Thursday flagged off 100 new buses for the capital’s public transport fleet, marking a significant step toward improving commuter convenience. Among these, 50 are revamped ‘U’ Special buses, making a return to Delhi’s roads after nearly 30 years.

The ‘U’ Special buses, once popular among daily commuters, have been reintroduced with upgraded features, including DTC Radio and enhanced seating arrangements. Officials said the buses are designed to meet current passenger needs and offer a more comfortable travel experience.

Speaking at the event, the Chief Minister said her administration is also considering concessions for students on Metro travel to ease the financial burden of daily commuting. “We are introducing 100 new buses, including the upgraded ‘U’ Specials with DTC Radio. Our aim is to provide better facilities to the people of Delhi,” she noted.

The reintroduction of the ‘U’ Specials has drawn attention, as they were last seen in operation nearly three decades ago. Transport department officials said the move is part of a larger strategy to modernize Delhi’s bus network and provide commuters with a wider range of reliable travel options.
