New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta stated that her government has approached the Supreme Court regarding the issue of end-of-life vehicles, pledging to represent the views of citizens affected by the ban on older vehicles.
“It is our duty to put forth the opinion of people. Previous government did not do anything for the environment and let people die. This is why NGT has to bring in provision to put ban on vehicles that are 10-15 years old,” Gupta said, criticizing earlier administrations for their inaction on environmental issues.
However, she added that if vehicles have passed quality checks and remain roadworthy, they should not be subjected to a blanket ban. “We are completely attentive towards the environment… If the vehicles have passed the quality checks, then the ban should not be imposed on them,” she said.
On the occasion of Kargil Vijay Diwas, the Chief Minister also paid homage to the soldiers who laid down their lives during the 1999 conflict. “I pay my heartfelt tribute to the martyrs of Kargil war. They fight on borders so that we can sleep in peace,” Gupta remarked.
