Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Monday announced that the city government will celebrate the birth anniversary of Maharishi Valmiki with “great grandeur” this year. She said the government has extended support to more than 100 organizations involved in the events and that all government representatives will attend various programs as part of the celebrations. The government has also declared a holiday on the occasion.
Addressing concerns related to Diwali celebrations, Gupta noted the balance between managing pollution and respecting religious sentiments. “I believe that Delhi's problems are there in their place, and working on them is one solution, but there are millions of people in the country who are religious, for whom Diwali is a very big festival, connected to emotions,” she said.
In this context, the Chief Minister expressed support for the use of green crackers, stating that the government would formally inform the court about its commitment to controlling pollution while also allowing citizens to celebrate the festival safely. “The government will take responsibility towards pollution seriously and will fulfil it, but everyone should be given permission to use green crackers on this festival,” Gupta added.
