New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Sunday called for greater public participation in voluntary blood donation and announced the upcoming launch of a digital initiative aimed at improving access to blood donors in emergency situations. Addressing a public awareness event, the Chief Minister emphasized the critical role timely blood donations play in saving lives.
“Many times it becomes difficult to save lives due to the unavailability of blood during treatment. Let us all come together and join this blood donation campaign. Each unit of blood can be lifesaving,” said Gupta, urging citizens to actively participate in the cause.
Highlighting the need for a more streamlined system, she revealed that the Delhi government is preparing to launch a mobile application linked to a comprehensive blood donors’ directory. “The app will contain data of people willing to donate blood in Delhi so that any person in need can access the names and phone numbers of blood donors at the time of need and get help in reaching the nearest blood donor,” she said.
The initiative is expected to reduce delays during medical emergencies and make blood donation more accessible and organized. Officials say the directory will be regularly updated and verified to ensure reliability.
