Delhi BJP President Virendraa Sachdeva on Sunday emphasized the need for 'One Nation, One Election', stating that the continuous cycle of elections in India hampers national development by wasting time, money, and resources. Speaking to the media, Sachdeva said, "Repeated elections in the country hinder development. Each year, elections take place somewhere, and the electoral procedure goes on, which wastes money and time."
Highlighting the extensive logistics involved in conducting elections, he pointed to the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, where 1 crore workers were employed. "The Code of Conduct during elections also halts a lot of work, disrupting progress across various sectors," he added.
Sachdeva argued that 'One Nation, One Election' was a system successfully implemented between 1952 and 1966, and that its deterioration began after 1968 when frequent government changes led to instability. He noted, “This system deteriorated when governments were toppled from 1968. We believe that it is essential for the development of the country."
He also called for a nationwide public campaign to gather opinions on the issue, stressing that the BJP is committed to making this campaign a central point of discussion. “We will work to make this campaign public and take their opinions as well,” he affirmed.
