Karnal: Congress MP Deepender Singh Hooda on Wednesday described the car explosion near Delhi’s Red Fort as “a very sad incident,” and urged the government to pursue decisive measures against terrorism while stressing national unity. Speaking in Karnal, Hooda recalled the country’s response after the Pulwama attack and questioned whether stronger past action might have prevented recurring terror incidents.

“This is a very sad incident. After Pulwama, our forces had brought Pakistan to its knees and our Air Force even struck Pakistani airfields. Yet the very next day a ceasefire was implemented, which the US later said was enforced under pressure due to trade concerns. When Pakistan was on its knees, the government held back from taking decisive action. Had decisive action been taken then, perhaps this would not have happened today,” he said, arguing that lessons from past responses must inform current policy.

Hooda acknowledged the broad national consensus in the aftermath of the blast and urged authorities to convert that unity into effective counterterror measures. “Even now, the country is united. Any action against terror should be carried out,” he said, calling for clear, robust steps to prevent further attacks and to hold perpetrators to account.
