Kerala Nurse Nimisha Priya
By A Staff Reporter
New Delhi: Congress MP KC Venugopal on Monday stated that the death sentence of Nimisha Priya, an Indian nurse facing capital punishment in Yemen, has been postponed. Speaking to reporters, Venugopal emphasized that multiple appeals had been made to the central government for diplomatic intervention in the case.
“We got the information that Nimisha Priya's death sentence has been postponed,” Venugopal said. “We all requested the central government to intervene in the matter, but we got the information that Grand Mufti Sheikh Abubakr Ahmad Kanthapuram has intervened. Whosoever is involved in saving the human life of the woman of Kerala is welcome.”
Nimisha Priya, a native of Kerala, was convicted in Yemen for the murder of a Yemeni national and sentenced to death in 2017. Her case has attracted significant attention in India, with human rights advocates and political leaders urging the government to secure her release or a commutation of her sentence through diplomatic or humanitarian channels.
