New Delhi: Amid the intensifying national debate over language imposition, Communist Party of India (CPI) General Secretary D Raja launched a sharp attack on the BJP and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), accusing them of promoting linguistic hierarchy and undermining India’s linguistic diversity.

Reacting to RSS Akhil Bharatiya Prachar Pramukh Sunil Ambekar’s recent remarks on the language issue, D Raja said, “These RSS leaders should go to Amit Shah and give him a lesson... Amit Shah believes that Hindi is the only language, and if someone speaks in English, they will feel ashamed of doing so.”

D Raja further urged the RSS to direct its criticism inward, especially toward BJP leaders who, according to him, are making divisive and “absurd” statements regarding language preferences. “RSS should teach the BJP leaders who are speaking such absurd things on the question of language. RSS should understand that all languages are national languages. All languages must be treated equally, and no language should be given preferential treatment,” he asserted.

The language debate has resurfaced in recent weeks, with southern states and opposition leaders voicing concerns over the alleged imposition of Hindi at the cost of regional languages. The Union Home Minister Amit Shah has previously stirred controversy with statements supporting Hindi as a national link language, which many non-Hindi speaking states have strongly opposed.
