New Delhi: In sharp criticism of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent assertion that “India has and will never accept mediation,” Communist Party of India (CPI) General Secretary D Raja has demanded complete transparency on the nature of talks held between PM Modi and US President Donald Trump. Raja called on the Prime Minister to break his silence and inform the nation and Parliament about the contents and implications of the telephonic exchange.
Addressing the media, Raja said, “Mr. Modi, as the Prime Minister of India, must come forward and tell the country what exactly transpired during his conversation with President Trump. Why are Parliament, political parties, and the people of India being kept in the dark?”
Raja made it clear that while he had no direct comment on the Foreign Secretary’s readout of the Modi-Trump call, serious questions remain unanswered. “These questions are not just political; they are fundamental to how democracy should function. Why can’t the Prime Minister open his mouth and explain to the people of this country what exactly happened?” he asked.
He further criticised what he sees as the marginalisation of the legislative process, asserting, “India is a democracy. Parliament cannot be made redundant. Political parties have every right to demand a special session to be convened so that the Prime Minister can take all members into confidence.”
Raja also questioned the role of the United States in recent developments, especially in light of comments made by US officials and the timing of PM Modi’s call with President Trump, amid heightened tensions following the Pahalgam terror attack.
“The Prime Minister must inform Parliament of what role was played — or not played — by the US. This is about transparency and national interest, and silence is not an option,” he concluded.
