CHAIBASA, JHARKHAND: A CRPF jawan was killed, and another injured after Naxalites detonated an improvised explosive device (IED) in the forested and hilly region under the Chotanagra Police Station area in West Singhbhum district on Friday, targeting security forces.

According to Jharkhand Police, the blast injured two personnel from CRPF’s 193 Battalion—Sunil Kumar Mandal and Parth Pratim Dey. Both were airlifted to Ranchi for advanced medical treatment. However, Sunil Kumar Mandal succumbed to his injuries, while Parth Pratim Dey is reported to be in stable condition.

The attack is part of an ongoing insurgency in the region, where security forces have been conducting anti-Naxal operations. Jharkhand remains a stronghold for Naxal activities, with periodic ambushes and explosions targeting law enforcement personnel.

Following the blast, security forces launched a search operation in the area to track down the perpetrators. Senior police and CRPF officials have assured that efforts are underway to curb Naxal activities and maintain law and order.

This incident adds to the growing concerns over insurgent violence in Jharkhand, with authorities emphasizing the need for enhanced security measures to protect personnel operating in high-risk zones.
