New Delhi | After meeting with the Election Commission of India, Communist Party of India (CPI) General Secretary D Raja voiced serious concerns over the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar. Speaking to the media, Raja urged the Commission to postpone the exercise, citing the onset of the monsoon season and the high risk of floods and other natural calamities in the region.
“We went there to discuss the problems involved in holding Bihar elections,” Raja said. “There is an exercise that has been initiated by the Election Commission — the Special Intensive Revision. We requested that it be postponed because Bihar will soon be grappling with floods, heavy rains, and other natural challenges that must be taken into consideration.”
Raja further suggested that the upcoming state elections could instead be conducted using the electoral rolls prepared for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, thereby avoiding unnecessary logistical strain during a vulnerable period for the state.
However, Raja expressed disappointment at the Commission’s response. “The Commission is not showing any willingness to reconsider whatever it is doing in the state of Bihar,” he added.
